Instructor: Tristan De Borba,

     Tristan De Borba is a classical saxophonist, clarinetist and a Wind Ensemble conductor.  He earned a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Instrument Performance at the University of British Columbia where he studied with world-renowned saxophonist Julia Nolan and with conductor Martin Berinbaum.  Tristan completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree at the University of Toronto in 2007 where he studied saxophone with Dr. Wallace Halladay and conducting with Raffi Armenian and Dr. Gillian Mackay.   Equally adept at both standard classical and contemporary repertoire, Tristan has performed saxophone works by Albright, Berio, Dahl, Denisov, Desenclos, Glazounov, Husa, Ibert, Tower and as well as works by Canadian composers Denis Bedard, Robert Lemay and Gary Kulesha.  Tristan has also studied saxophone in masterclass with Dr. Timothy Mcallister, Dr. John Sampen, Nobuya Sugawa and Jean-Francois Guay amongst others.

            Tristan De Borba is a two-time scholarship winner at the University of British Columbia and a three-time scholarship winner at the University of Toronto. Tristan is also a concerto competition prizewinner at both UBC and U of T.  As a soloist he has performed the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra.  Tristan has also performed the Ingolf Dahl Saxophone Concerto with the University of British Columbia Symphonic Wind Ensemble.  As an orchestral saxophonist, Tristan De Borba has appeared under such notable conductors as Peter Oundjian, Alain Trudel,  Raffi Armenian and Jesse Read.

            Tristan De Borba is also an experienced band conductor.  As a graduate teaching assistant and assistant conductor to Professor Martin Berinbaum and the University of British Columbia Symphonic Wind Ensemble he had the privilege of conducting the ensemble various time in concert, including conducting works by Brahms, Bizet, Bernstein and Grainger.

 A dedicated music educator Tristan has taught saxophone and clarinet at various schools including Cardinal Carter Academy for the arts.

 Tristan De Borba currently lives in Toronto where he is active as a freelance musician and a saxophone and clarinet instructor.
