RCM Examinations Gold Medal winner in Music Theory (Highest grade average for all ARCT theory Exams)
ARCT
Eric Tan is an Engineering major and Music minor at Cornell University, studying piano with Professor Xak Bjerken. Recently, he won the 2011 Cornell Concerto Competition, along with an engagement with the Cornell Symphony Orchestra. Eric won 1st prize at CMC National Finals (16 & under), 2nd prize at CFMTA National Piano Competition, and many other top local and provincial prizes/awards. As ORMTA’s 2007 Young Artist of the Year, he embarked on a six-city solo concert tour of Ontario. Eric has played for many world-renowned pianists, including in master classes at the Orford Arts Centre and YAPA (RCM). He also won RCM’s 2010 Gold Medal in Music Theory. In the summer of 2011 he was the theory assistant at the Ware Academy of Music coaching theory students and directing the theory workshops. Mr. Tan received First Class Honours with Distinction on every piano and theory exams with an average of 95 on his theory exams.
